Today I’m going back to my roots by wearing an outfit inspired by my culture. A fabric that has played an astronomical role in West and central Africa is the Ankara fabric also known as Dutch Wax print or West African fabric. They are colorful, beautifully patterned and for decades, been tailored into shift dresses, power suits, skirts, formal gowns and even casual wear. My love for bright and bold colors stems from growing up back in Cameroon being surrounded by such rich colored fabrics has inspired my fashion sense today. The great thing about African dutch print fabric is that they’re usually multicolored and densely printed thus making it easy to dress it up with a variety of solid colors. I’m wearing an ankara printed flare skirt Paired with this look is a black velvet purse, gold watch and studded pink heels. Link of the items have been attached at the end of the post. Comment with your thoughts on Dutch wax fabric and would you be brave enough to try it out.
